In other JUDAS PRIEST news, the group's management and record label have begun setting up studio report-type interviews with the band for next week, with journalists flying in from all over the world to hear the final mixes of the group's as-yet-untitled new album.
According to SKINLAB vocalist/bassist Steev Esquivel, it is now 'official': SKINLAB's forthcoming CD, tentatively titled The Revolting Room, will be recorded at the Indigo Ranch Studio in Malibu, Calfornia with producer Richard Kaplan, who has previously worked with KORN, COLD, SEPULTURA, SOULFLY and A.N.I.M.A.L., among others. The album will be mixed by the team of Richard Kaplan and Chuck Johnson. 'This has been somewhat of a long shot for us,' stated Esquivel, 'but the guys at Indigo are into the new SKINLAB [material] and are are willing to work with our budget. So that's cool. Some of my favorite records have come from out of [that studio], so hopefully we can share a little of the magic that was created there.'
MARILYN MANSON, one of the 'co-headliners' of the upcoming Ozzfest festival tour, will not be appearing at the Denver show (which is scheduled for June 22nd at Mile High Stadium),according to the tour promoters and various press sources. Although MANSON's publicist attributed the band's absence from the bill to 'a prior commitment,' three sources involved with the tour told The Denver Post that the major factor behind MANSON canceling his Denver appearance was lingering concern over the Columbine High School tragedy.
...
As you may recall, some students quoted immediately after the April 1999 shootings speculated that killers Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris were influenced by MANSON's music—claims that were rejected by the singer. In the wake of the Columbine shootings, a radio station-sponsored MANSON concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre was canceled, and the band has not performed in Denver since.
According to Totalrock.com, LIMP BIZKIT will come straight off the road in June after their European tour and head into the studio to start work on a new album. The band intend to spend the summer recording. It is also understood that LIMP BIZKIT will have some new songs included on the soundtrack for the new movie Runts, which will mark LB vocalist Fred Durst's directorial debut.
San Francisco's MANMADEGOD, featuring former FORBIDDEN members Craig Locicero (guitars) and Steve Jacobs (drums),are tentatively scheduled to enter a Los Angeles recording studio at the end of April with producers Rick Rubin and Brian Joseph Dobbs to begin work on their debut release for American Recordings, due out later in the year. Best known for his engineering work on various recordings produced by Bob Rock (including releases from METALLICA and MOTLEY CRUE, among others),Dobbs was at the production helm for MANMADEGOD's most recent five-song demo, the same recording that evidently impressed American Recordings enough to offer the a deal with the label.
13th Street web magazine, the self-proclaimed 'ultimate online entertainment destination for enthusiasts of action and suspense, horror and science fiction', has posted a new, exclusive, four-part interview with METALLICA guitarist and horror enthusiast Kirk Hammett. The interview touches upon such topics as his boyhood fascination with horror and morbidity, favorite horror films, and other subjects related to the 'darker' sides of the human mind. Here is a particularly interesting quote on the subject of 'obsessive' fans:
...
'It's not very fun being stalked, and I think the difference between groupies and stalkers is groupies, at one point, have some sort of satisfaction, and know when to turn around and go home. Stalkers are obsessive and know no bounds. They never get enough of whomever they are fixated with. I've gotten the weirdest stuff in the mail. I mean goddamn scary stuff. In fact, I have files of it. In the band it's gotten to the point where certain people had to get restraining orders against certain fans. This is a typical situation: a package will arrive in the mail to our management. It will be filled with pictures, a love letter (which is always 8 or 9 pages long),and it goes into detail about your future with this particular person. This one person went so far as to send me a video of her singing love songs to me! And being really, really f***ing scary! A lot of these people are people who are in need of psychiatric help. A lot of times they talk about it. They talk about 'Yeah, I just got out of the hospital,' or 'I didn't take my medication today,' or 'I've been put away for awhile and I just got out, but they're trying to put me in again.' I mean it's scary f***ing stuff! You know, how does one protect oneself from it? There's only one way. Not expose yourself at all. And that, in and of itself, is a scary prospect. You kind of have to handle each situation differently. It's the scariest part of what comes along with being in the situation that we're in.'
